Its Miller Show, Proteas Beat Australia in KFC first T20I

231

Steve Smith won the toss and chose to bat first. Peter Nevill and Adam Zampa made their debuts in the Twenty 20 Internationals. Hashim Amla and Dale Steyn not in the South African eleven.

Aussies opened with Usman Khawaja and Aaron Finch and David Warner to bat at number 3. The move did not work out though as Khawaja mistimed a pull shot. This was first time happen tha Warner not open for Australia.

Finch and Warner dominate the Proteas with belligerent hitting. The right-left combination gave Faf du Plessis plenty of things to work.

Finch was on fire against the part-time spin of JP Duminy by smashing him for a hat-trick of sixes and finish his over with 24-runs. On the other end, Warner took on to Chris Morris as the Powerplay finish Australia were at 69/1 runs.

David Wiese and Imran Tahir get the pull things back for south africa and dismissed both dangerous warner and finch. After that Smith’s ability to play spin was exposed by Tahir. Maxwell followed him after unsuccessfully trying to clear the inner circle. Tahir took wickets of Neville and John Hastings in quick succession.

But in the end partnership of 35 between Mitchell Marsh and Nathan Coulter-Nile helps Australia to reach to the competitive target of 157.

The Proteas’ chase starts with huge blow when AB de Villiers edged Coulter-Nile for a golden duck. This was 3rd time only that AB got out on duck in T20  Internationals. Quinton de Kock survived after a top edge go over the wicket-keeper’s head.

Andrew Tye got wicket of Duminy with a change of pace to and the hosts were at 41/3 when the first six overs ended. Rilee Rossouw joined Du Plessis at the crease and they looked to rotate the strike and create a partnership. But, Marsh puts a break on this partnership by picking up Rossouw caught at point by Usman Khwaja. After this throw from Nevill ended du Plessis’ charge as back to back wickets and South Africa lose half of their team in hut.

But this was David Miller show to make partnership with the lower order batsmen and play till the end. He showed his hitting ability and hit two sixes in  Tye over to bring down the required run rate. He hits two balls out of the ground on the roof of the stadium. Morris also hit few hits with the Miller and reach south africa nearer to the target. Finch produced a stunning catch to remove morris but its to late where africa needs 23 from 18 balls.

Dismissal did not matter much in the end as Miller took the Proteas home with his first T20I fifty.

Brief Scores: Australia 157/9 (Finch 40, Marsh 35, Tahir 3-21); South Africa 158/7 from 19.2 overs (Miller 53*, du Plessis 40, Coulter-Nile 3-29)
