CONMEBOL president Alejandro Dominguez has let slip that Brazil will host the Copa America in 2019.
The South American giants, who staged the 2014 World Cup, were widely expected to be named as hosts but, until Tuesday, no official confirmation had been made.
Brazil were set to host the 2015 edition of the tournament but Chile, next on CONMEBOL’s alphabetical rotation policy, were chosen instead due to the fact that Brazil were hosting the 2013 Confederations Cup, 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olympic Games.
Responding to a question on Tuesday on current Copa America Centenario hosts, the United States, the CONCACAF supremo let the information slip.
“[The United States] been great hosts, just like Chile were last year and like Brazil will be in 2019.
“People are enjoying it, the football is making a great show, and hopefully the level of football grows and it reaches all the people.”
Brazil have an excellent history when it comes to hosting the Copa America, having won all four editions (1919, 1922, 1949 and 1989) that it has staged.
