The Manchester United midfielder set a new record for Germany last night in their 1-0 win over Northern Ireland.
He overtook Philipp Lahm to become Germany’s record appearance holder at the European Championships with 15 appearances. The 31-year-old made his tournament debut at Euro 2004. He has made one more than Lahm.
Schweinsteiger took to Twitter ahead of last night’s game and tweeted:
“We’ll play a strong opponent tonight. However, our goal is to finish the group in first place!”
