Gareth Bale to land ‘deal for life’ in Spain as Real Madrid prepare to make Wales star one of the highest-paid players in the world
Gareth Bale will return to Spain after the European Championship to a ‘contract for life’ at Real Madrid.
The news will scupper the interest from Premier League powerhouses but shows once again the growing presence of Bale as one of the world’s very best players.
Bale, 26, can expect a deal stretching way beyond his 30th birthday. Although it is yet to be formally confirmed, Sportsmail understands the length of his new contract could be as long as seven years. Madrid will also make him one of the highest-paid players in the world.
Gareth Bale has been in blistering form for Wales, who finished as Group B winners on Monday.
He is expected to emerge as the face of Real Madrid in future seasons, ahead even of team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo, who has struggled in this tournament.
Bale cost Madrid around £85million in 2013 and that made him the world’s most expensive player. That fee is expected to come under threat if and when Paul Pogba leaves Juventus this summer.
Madrid themselves are favourites to sign the France midfielder but they are eager to tie up Bale quickly.
